You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

Tharean blinks slowly. He was surprised, opening his lips slowly he tilts his head to the side just a little. "You know me?" He glances down at the cushion before folding his legs one over the other, descending onto it. "I am from Vectra, I lived amongst the trees in their canopies with my family and friends. I enjoyed my life there. It was peaceful and relaxed. Though it became a little monotonous. I rarely descended the trunks of the trees that protected us. I still remember being scolded for the first time I ventured down without permission." A giddy grin splits across Tharean's face as he recalls the fond memory. "Oh how I yearned to see this... 'surface!' I simply had to go and see it. After that day I was forbaid from going down to the surface for many years. When I did again, I was fascinated by what I saw. I'd heard tales of the humans and their great civilizations. Vast cities built upon the surface itself without a care in the world."

He pauses briefly, his shoulder sink a little. "But that was not what I saw. I saw scared, hungry, pitiful creatures. Not like the ones I'd heard about in the stories. They were not great warriors we once lost to. They were like flightless birds, unsure of what to do with their lives..." Tharean sighs deeply. His head dips a bit for a moment, before he raises it once again. He scans the inside of the tent, tracing the framework with his eyes. This town was not what he had imagined either. Not what he had dreamed about. But there was more. He was sure of it. There had to be. Places like he'd dreamed of, places like the Haven Islands or the great Kingdom that had once opposed them. They had to exist out there somewhere. Right? The elf takes a deep breath, raising his shoulders up as he inhales and dropping them on his exhale as if to reset himself before continuing to speak. "So, I decided to leave. I chose to explore the world, see what great societies there were. See the pinnacle of humanity, and see how the rest of my kin has survived in foreign lands. I departed from Strast and sailed here. I hope to continue on to even larger lands, with grander settlements and more diverse peoples. I wish to see the world. To feel what is the best, and know what is the worst."

The boy takes another deep breath, closing his eyes briefly.
"I am an adventurer, I wish to see the world. I, am Tharean of Vectra."
A grin forms on his face once again as he stares at the crone, beaming with excitement.
