You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

"My story..?" Merick sits on the cushion, while thinking of his 'story'. "I am Merick, a 19 year old boy. I am a human. Growing up, I always wanted to be a knight. I would always see my father training when I was young. The way you hold a sword, the careful movements..." He pauses for a moment. "Everything about it i wanted. I wanted to do good in the world, to see new sights, to be a- a real adventurer! I wanted to go from town to town, doing quests, helping people... Just like him..." He looks down. "I had to raise myself most of the time, while he was out. I got used to it. Clean stables, wash tables, get some coin, buy my meals, then repeat the next day. I was alone, most of the time. But... I KNEW he was out there. Then, one day, while I was 13... I got news from one of his friends that he had died saving someone from a group of bandits. My life was almost the exact same when he was gone. The same routine... but... it was different. I still never got to see him, I still felt alone, but this time it was... Harder. I was more alone this time, more... Afraid." He looks back up with watery eyes. "I knew I had to do something. I wanted to be just like him, but stronger. I wanted to help more people, go on more adventures, and get rid of the evil in this world! I wanted to do everything he couldn't, when his life was robbed from him! I ate less, worked harder, and saved more money. When i was 18, I bought my first pair of gear. Some armour, a sword, and a shield. I made my armour custom made to look just like his... From what I remember, at least. I vowed to always protect, and to help those in need. That is why I never take off my armour. I need to always be prepared for the next time someone needs me. That, is my story." He wipes his eyes and looks back up with a determined look on his face.
