You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
Kaladin's father was a surgeon, but Kaladin believes he was born to become a mighty warrior in the King's army. His father disapproves of his desire, saying that war only kills, and that surgeons protect. He disagrees, and believes that war can protect. He responds:
"I was forced to join the army when the magistrate drafted my younger brother, Tian, into the army. I joined to protect him along the way." Kaladin pauses and takes a moment. "I was unable to do so. Now, I seek justice for what was done to my brother."
Kaladin is a man of honor, but this does not mean that he's a man of the law. He does what he believes to be righteous, even if it means taking another's life.
