You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
looking at her blankly till she starts to study me, making me scratch my head and question whether or not she was actually looking past behind me "I'm a foreigner and I've....not told anyone where I've been going, how could you be...?" I thought it best not to finish that question. This was clearly either a confused old hag with bad eyes or one that sees far better than most. Either way it was best not to upset her. besides I wasn't opposed to telling a bit about myself, I enjoyed telling stories not just my own. So I pulled up some cushion and took a breath, watching it blow out before my eyes as the tent did little to shelter you from the cold "I came to explore our vast world and its people. To perhaps settle down somewhere adventures commune and hear as many stories of threes as I can. I'm a decent barmaid and hope to run my own tavern someday. So that I may hear all the tales I want even the tallest of them. Always open to listen to my patrons.....even when others don't want me too" part of me felt uneasy saying that, I'm usually so careful about slipping such details but in the presence of this woman I feel to be honest, the creeping sense up my spine I know she'd see right through my cleverest lies. taking out a gold coin to fidget with as I continue my tale "I've overheard or gotten information from drunkards and hooligans'. Some of which I could take advantage of selling off that information or handling smaller more covert jobs myself. After all, no one expects the small energetic friendly barmaid to be your downfall, not in that way at least hehe. Carve a mask, don a cloak and no one will even know what you look like, you're different than a person then, just a name on the wind, may as well be a myth." I seem to lean forward, growing less tense while regaling my tale. studying my coins sides as I toy with it between my fingers "We goblins have always had to adapt, if you've little strength to fight you use your wits to pit your enemies against each other till they're weak enough for you... or just gallop away with their spoils while they bicker. I don't have malicious intent, its all business." flipping the coin and letting it fall back to my hand. "one that I intend to carve a piece out of for myself. Though I can be generous to the few that earn my trust, after all in this world you'll need allies" setting down the coin for her to keep "for the lovely company"

How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: I just kind of...avoid it? I generally don't push uncomfortable things and scenarios on others, I have the most fun roleplaying when I know the other person is also enjoying it so I do my best to provide that environment. I also enjoy having limitations in roleplay, (i.e not performing something impossible myself) having the opportunity try my hand at providing a clever workaround or storytelling solution to my problem at hand. makes it more gratifying than "i win because i said so"
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: because from then on its not true roleplay of the scenario. someone is given perhaps vital knowledge that they themselves didn't discover during gameplay. it can be especially detrimental if you are more of a solo player or on a solo mission/journey where taking in every bit of visual and audio information counts while a possible group of enemies could just unfairly "metagame" as it were making it impossible to make any progress even though you may have been skilled and careful in game and roleplay. and if you were the committer or receiver of metagaming knowledge I'd think you'd have that itching voice in your head that says "I didn't deserve this". it just feels bad
