I personally have no issue with the abilities. They aren't that different from similar creatures. Ents are an entirely different thing, and really don't have anything to do with this lore.

Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:
An arcane familiar is created in a somewhat similar manner to creatures such as Golem. In order for one to exist, they must have a magical core created and enchanted. The core consists of a very large mana gem, encompassed in arcaurum.

They have various binding plates constructed around it, usually simply acting as a guideline for the shape of the being. These plates can be made of many different materials. But wood wouldn’t really work well for a fire familiar, and so on.

A familiar’s behavior is quite similar to that of any other conjured beast. It obeys the orders of it’s creator. It is up to their creator to teach them anything. Although their arcane power is innate. If they are taught to talk, they have no emotion in their voice, they can speak like a human, but their voice sounds very inhuman. 

The spells they cast do not inherently come from the void, but instead are taken directly from their body.

They rely on thier core and plates to function. Any strike to their bodies that only hit the element itself will do minimal damage, and only cause the core to be drained of the slight amount of mana needed to regenerate the lost element. The destruction of the core, however will cause the familiar to be ‘killed’ in a sense, until the core is repaired or recharched.

I just don't think you hold even the slightest ability to be helpful to new people, especially those who don't understand you completely the first time. Not someone who I think would fit in on the AT whatsoever.
